Bill Kuechler is a retired professor of Information Systems and former Chair of the Information Systems discipline at the University of Nevada, Reno. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University and a Ph.D. in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University. Bill’s academic career follows a successful twenty-two year industry career in information systems development and consulting. He has held positions as: software engineer, software engineering manager, software systems product manager, consultant and Director of IT. His extensive work and life experience brings insight to his teaching of both Information Systems courses and the teaching of mindfulness-based courses, especially to working adults. Bill’s current research investigates the effects of mindfulness in the work environment.
As a meditator for over twenty years, Bill was instrumental in bringing a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program to UNR several years ago and has since worked with Professor Yvonne Stedham to develop a course in Mindful Leadership that is an elective in the MBA program. The course, which combines current thinking on leadership with the practice and hard-science basis of mindfulness has been extremely successful, and has given rise to a shorter seminar course covering the same topics, but geared to industry. The seminar course, first presented to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), has also been very well received.
